In the 70s Brazil was locked down, importing into the country wasn’t allowed yet customers wanted a sports car. To their rescue VW was making the Karmann Ghia there so engineers went to work and developed the SP2 powered by an aircooled 1700cc. Only 10,500 were made, making it now one of the most sought after and valuable VWs.
